Kristin Chenoweth will not return for American Gods Season 2

In an interview with TVLine, Emmy Award winning actress Kristin Chenoweth has revealed that she won’t be returning to the upcoming second season of Starz’s critically-acclaimed fantasy drama American Gods. Her decision came following the sudden departure of original co-creator Bryan Fuller, whom Chenoweth is close friends with.

“I couldn’t come back without him,” Chenoweth said. “It wouldn’t be right.”

Chenoweth played the role of the goddess of spring and resurrection named Easter who appeared in season one’s eighth episode. Before Fuller and Michael Green’s departure, she was originally set to return for several Season 2 episodes.

“Let me just say this: Those people are also my family,” Chenoweth added. “It came out of [author Neil] Gaiman’s brain, who is a genius.” She added that she wants the show to be a success for the people who are still involved with it. “But ultimately…I mean, Bryan’s my guy.”

It was recently revealed that production on the series’ second season is currently on hiatus and is reportedly six weeks behind schedule after reports that executive producer Jesse Alexander was pushed to the side as the series’ showrunner, hence the 2019 release date.
